SM-all Group Ministry

St. Martin’s “SM-all” Group ministry is a place where all interested parishioners can explore their faith and build their community through an integrated approach of book study, fellowship, prayer, and outreach.  The groups of 5-12 people meet regularly and follow the established Christ Care model designed by Stephen Ministry. The groups are led by trained Christ Care Leaders who facilitate dialogue related to inspirational books that the members mutually select, much like a “book club.” If you seek a more meaningful and deeper faith experience, there is no better place to do it than in the midst of a small group of faithful people who are helping each other make progress on their spiritual journey. ChristCare

What is Christ Care?
Christ Care Groups are gatherings of  5 to 12  people who meet regularly to explore their faith through: Sharing and Caring; Biblical Equipping® to study God’s Word; Prayer and Worship to build a more confident prayer life, and Missional Service.  The program is offered at many churches across the country and is organized through Stephen Ministry.  Groups are led by trained and supervised Christ Care Leaders.   Over time, the hope is that church members will get to know more and more members by participating in various Christ Care groups.

How is CC different from other small groups at St. Martin’s?
For one, Christ Care groups truly are small- 12 people or less. This size facilitates comfortable sharing and faith exploration within the nurturing environment that only a small group can provide. And it allows for groups to form that are targeted to specific needs or goals. Parents, Seniors, Youth, Couples, Men and Women might have different requirements and interest levels. ChristCare can bring people together who share a common goal. We explore ways to pray and worship that meet the needs and comfort levels of the individual members. The groups sign a covenant to address regular attendance and confidentiality. And, they are intentional about spiritual development. We have fun, but our discussions apply scripture to contemporary themes. The idea is to equip members to know more about their faith, support their daily walk with God, and deepen their spiritual development.

What’s all this buzz about Small Groups?
Study after study has shown that the future of mainline churches depends on small groups to make larger congregations more accessible.  Small groups are a welcoming entry point for newcomers and help to keep faith at the center of parish life all week long.  They strengthen our spiritual knowledge, our church connections and provide an avenue for congregational growth.  Whenever two or more or gathered in his name, Christ shows up.
