RAISE THE ROOF!

Yes, it’s that time again!

Time to roll up our sleeves, hike up our overalls, open our hearts and lend a hand in another wonderful Habitat for Humanity project!

Beginning May 3^rd and for the seven weeks following, our parish and several churches belonging to the Brookhaven Christian Ministries will work side by side to provide another deserving family a new home, a new start and a chance to live the American Dream.

We need volunteers from our parish to work on this project, starting with this Saturday, May 3^rd. Below is the schedule for the tasks on each given day. Please respond to me at ricklozano@mindspring.com if you can make it this Saturday, and also please list what other days you’d like to participate. We’ve always stepped up as a parish on these projects and I’m sure I can speak for everyone in saying that these projects have always been rewarding.

Additional notes:

· You must be at least 16 years of age to work on the build

· Please note that the first three days involve heavy work and some level of danger if you work on the roof.

· We will meet at St. Martin at 7AM early on the day of each build and carpool to the build site (leaving St. Martin at or around 7:30AM. I will have directions to the site and notes posted on the Parish Website.

· ***St. Martin’s day to provide lunch for the volunteers is DAY 7, DEDICATION DAY!! This is a great opportunity for those of you who can’t or choose not to work on the build can contribute through your culinary skills, and also be on hand for the dedication. Words cannot describe the emotions shared by everyone when the keys are finally turned over to the homeowners. Even if you didn’t volunteer, this is a very special day and not one to be missed.

Habitat Build Schedule – Tasks by Day

Day 1- May 3	Clear Crawlspace and paint foundation Set floor joists Lay floor decking Sheath panels and run exterior walls Run interior walls Tie walls together; straighten and brace Install lower porch package
Day 2- May 10	Prep and run trusses Deck roof Felt roof Install sub-fascia; barge rafters and drip edge Install windows and trim packages Interior framing – wind bracing, deadwood, attic stairs Set up for siding – corner boards, skirt board, drip cap and starter strip Build side porch and ramp
Day 3 – May 17	Shingle roof Insulate walls and ceiling Continue siding and caulking Install underlayment in kitchen, dining room and bathroom Build side porch and ramp
Day 4 – May 31	Interior painting Finish siding and caulking Exterior painting – siding, foundation, trim
Day 5 – June 7	Interior painting Exterior painting Install baseboard, window sills and miscellaneous interior trim Install kitchen cabinets and countertops Begin soffit and fascia
Day 6 – June 14	Interior painting Exterior painting Finish soffit and fascia Install porch railings
Day 7 – June 21	Install doorknobs and bathroom hardware Clean house interior Complete miscellaneous items Touch up interior and exterior painting Rake and clear lot Landscape DEDICATE NEW HOME!
