Mission Statement
To follow Christ and lead others to him.
Mission Prayer
"Everliving God, whose will it is that all should come to you through your Son Jesus Christ: Inspire our witness to him, that all may know the power of his forgiveness and the hope of his resurrection; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen."
A Word from Father Graham:
Confirmation???
According to the catechism in the Book of Common Prayer, Confirmation is defined as, “…the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop. It is required of those to be confirmed that they have been baptized, are sufficiently instructed in the Christian Faith, are penitent for their sins, and are ready to affirm their confession of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.”
St. Martin’s will welcome the Right Reverend Keith Whitmore, Assistant Bishop of Atlanta, for the Great Vigil of Easter on Saturday Evening, April 7 at 7:00 p.m. Bishop Whitmore will celebrate the Holy Eucharist, preach and administer the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Persons desiring to be confirmed should attend six classes in preparation for this rite of mature commitment. Classes begin Sunday, February 12, 2012, and are held in the Parish Library (Burgreen room) following the 9:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist. Sessions will address Anglican Identity, Anglican Authority, Anglican Spirituality, Anglican Temperament, Anglican Polity, and the Rite of Confirmation.
As Episcopalians, we understand our entire lives as dedicated to growing in our relationships with Christ. These six sessions are intended to initiate thought and study and prayer, which will endure for the rest of one’s life.
Persons already confirmed will find these classes helpful as a revisiting of existing understandings. They may wish to reaffirm their commitment when Bishop Whitmore visits. Kneeling before the bishop, those expressing reaffirmation hear him say, “N. may the Holy Spirit, who has begun a good work in you, direct and uphold you in the service of Christ and His kingdom. Amen.”
Finally, Bishop Whitmore will receive desirous persons who have made a mature profession of faith in another church into the Episcopal Church saying, “N. we recognize you as a member of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church, and we receive you into the fellowship of this Communion. God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, bless, preserve, and keep you. Amen.” Those desiring to be received should attend these classes as well.
Yours in Christ,
Father Graham
