Knights of St. Martin's

All men of St. Martin’s are members of this group. Regular events include monthly breakfast gathering with special speakers, weekly Bible Study and service to others through ministries like Habitat for Humanity.

Men’s Breakfast
On the first Tuesday of the month (except for a break during the summer) men from the parish are cordially invited to join a breakfast group that meets at the Old Hickory House on Chamblee-Dunwoody Road in the heart of Dunwoody.

We meet at 7:00 a.m. and break at 8:00 a.m. There is no book to read or scripture to study! It is simply a group of guys getting together to discuss sports, current events, news and updates in our lives. The food is great and the conversation is even better.

Thanksgiving Deep-Fried Turkeys Program
The Deep-Fried Turkey program sponsored by The Knights of St. Martin has been a successful outreach event since 2006. The brave volunteers show up at “early-30” the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and deep fry turkeys until all orders are filled. The sign ups for purchasing one of these Thanksgiving holiday delicacies usually begins towards the end of October. This past year we nearly reached our goal of at least 100 turkeys sold and devoured and we are hoping for an increase in orders this year.

Not only is the muss and the fuss of baking a bird for your family eliminated, but the proceeds contribute to St. Martin’s Outreach program and the Emmaus House Thanksgiving Basket program. The Emmaus House sponsors a Thanksgiving basket program for at least 250 families which includes a turkey, side items and greens. They have been extremely grateful every year for these funds to help those in need on Thanksgiving.

Over the last four years the turkeys this parish has purchased has contributed over $4,200 to our Outreach program and over $2,400 to the Emmaus House Thanksgiving Basket program. This shows how our parish has generously “shared the cloak” for the Thanksgiving holidays.

Every year we are looking for hearty volunteers and turkey fryers to help out. It is truly amazing to witness and take part in the teamwork and camaraderie that makes this program a success year after year. If you have a deep fryer that you would be willing to donate for the day and/or would be willing to help out, please contact Tim Peek at (404) 252-2372 or email him at timhelnat@bellsouth.net.
Gobble, gobble!

Men’s Bible Study
This year, in addition to our regular study of Holy Scripture, we will be using two additional study guides. The first study focuses on the figure of King David. It is geared especially for a men’s group and is titled, A Man After God’s Own Heart. This study guide will be available in the church office beginning September 1.

Our second study will focus on a recent book, The Questions of Jesus, written by John Dear. While Jesus is often portrayed as “the man with all the answers”, this writer spends time reflecting on the various questions that Jesus asked those he encountered.

Men’s Bible Study meets in the church parlor on Thursday mornings at 7:30 a.m. and is open to all men in our parish and school community.
