St. Laurence Academy

Mission Summary
St. Laurence Education, Inc. is committed to equity in education for all children. The Board of Trustees of St. Laurence Education, Inc. seeks to open St. Laurence Academy (SLA) on the campus of Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, 2005 S. Columbia Place, Decatur, Georgia, in the fall of 2011. In our first school year we will open our doors to thirty 5th graders. In the first four years of operation, the school will grow to 120 students in grades 5–8. Our school will support underserved students in the Southeast Atlanta area, enacting a Christian commitment to social justice in the field of education.

St. Laurence Education, Inc. has been in the planning stages for this school since 2001. The school will be similar to the Nativity-Miguel Network model of middle schools with a mission to serve promising students from families eligible for free and reduced lunch. The school would be founded in the Episcopal tradition, while welcoming children of all faith and cultural backgrounds. Our belief is that a high quality education in a safe, compassionate community is crucial in breaking the cycle of poverty for children in underserved areas.
